Mississippi -- HogBlogger Quick Thoughts

Casey Dick, second half, 12-13 passing for 153 yards. Told ya! He just looks like a quarterback to me. 17-24 for 172 yards overall.

It sounded on the radio as if the defense really played well. Herring is getting it in place. Finally got the scoring help from the offense that he's needed for several games.

Hard to believe we could win while getting only 112 yards rushing out of the running backs (89 net for the game). Is that possible? Losing the stubborness and putting Roper on the bench for the second half was a good decision. Roper's been bravely playing hurt, but he's been hurting us on the O'line.

And, although according to Houston Dale, "play calling is sometimes overrated," he was quick to take credit in the postgame interview for the play call on the touchdown pass to Monk and then stated, "and I called a lot'o good'uns today!"

Actually scoring a few touchdowns does make a big difference in the results. Attacking the end zone from the 20 yard line is a necessity for success. Casey was two for two from that distance, with touchdown passes to Monk of 23 and 24 yards (to go along with his 4 yard touchdown toss to Hillis).

Kinda nice having a quarterback. Wonder where he's been all year?

There's a critic everywhere. Nutt can't win for losing. This is what I'm talking about the darksiders not being rational. Yeah, Nutt should've been a little more professional in his comments on the radio, but this is the Hogs first win in 6 SEC games and he's had more pressure than you could ever imagine having in your own life. It sounds to me as if some people can dish it out, but they can't take it.

And how do you know Roper has been hurting the line. That's a load right there. We have dominated every defensive line until this game. And it's not like our running game just got that much better when he went out. As you said, we had 89 total rushing yards. When you get an offensive line coaching job at even a high school team let me know and then I'll give your thoughts some credit.

And do you really think that Casey Dick was ready the first game of the season, or even the first four games of the season. Give me a break. He's a freshman. Now, I agree he should've played in the ULM game, but you people need to get over yourselves and enjoy a win. Life's too short to be complaining and microanalyzing (is that a word) every word that comes out of Nutt's mouth and every play he calls. Let's just enjoy a win and the fact that we found a QB who can actually make good decisions and make good passes. The future does not look so dark from these eyes.

Just look what happened in the second half when he (Nutt) chose not to "be afraid". Consistently throwing the ball, mixing it up, showing confidence in his young quarterback. Even up 21-17, did he sit on the lead? Nope, he kept the pressure on and it paid off with a nice SEC road win.

I can't say much though. If RoJo was my QB for the first 7 games, I'd be afraid and bitin' my nails on the sideline too.

10k...I have to disagree with you on (at least) one point. The game changed when Roper was relieved. The pass protection for Dick got just good enough for him to complete 12 out of 12. Up to that point, he hadn't had enough time to deliver the ball. And because that changed immediately after Roper was removed, I'm going to connect the dots until I see video.

So let's both watch the HDN Show today (a.k.a. "Sesame Street" for SSPs like you) and see whose conclusions it proves out...okay?

I may have misunderstood the original post. I do think Roper needed to come out in this game. But, I may have wrongly interpreted "but he's been hurting us on the O'line" as he's been hurting us for a few games. Because that is not true. So, if I misunderstood I apologize.
